6. FASTER THAN A SPEEDING AMBULANCE!!

Inspection of the ambulance showed it to be in excellent condition overall.  Chris performed all servicing with the help of his crew.  (Chris it is running great!!)  The ambulance was taken to a sheet metal shop for custom made underside metal skid plates to protect vital underside components from sharp stones and other road/trail hazards.  One large metal plate extends rearward from the front body cross member to the back of the transmission.  This covers the radiator and vital oil sump in addition to the transmission.  A metal "cradle" was also fabricated to fit under the fuel tank.

Because of the low ground clearance of the brace for the fold down steps at the back of the ambulance, the braces lower extension was cut off.  It will be carried in the ambulance and welded back on at the conclusion of the drive to Mongolia. 

A brief summary of servicing performed:

-Brake pads inspected.  Calibers cleaned with all contact points lubricated.  Full set of new pads carried as spares.

-Shocks and springs were inspected and found to be in good order.  All shock mounting bolts were loosened, lubricated and re-tightened.  A full set of front and rear shocks carried as spares.

-Four new commercial grade tires were fitted.  Two new mounted on rim tires carried as spares.

-All belts changed including timing belt.  New belts carried as spares.

-All hoses inspected, and replaced if  as necessary.

-All fluids changed.  Spare engine oil carried.

-All filters changed.  Multiple new fuel, air, and oil filters carried as spares.

-Two new heavy duty batteries purchased and installed.

-New power pack purchased and carried if batteries are drained for some reason.

-Spare light bulbs carried for all exterior lights front and rear.

-Wiper blades inspected.  New set carried as spares.

-New floor jack purchased and carried in addition to factory jack kit.

-Two new heavy duty support stands purchased and carried if more extensive underside repairs are needed on the road.

-Heavy duty towing strap carried.

-Four new 20 liter Jerry can carried for extra fuel.

-Two plastic 10 gallon containers carried for water source.

-Full new tool kit purchased and carried.
-New 3000 watt inverter purchased and installed for 240 volt power source to charge electronic equipment, computers, and run new microwave oven and new free standing air conditioner unit purchased.
